Spoiler alert: I love this place!

I found Vegan Fine Foods™ with a Google Maps search. I’m in Broward County visiting my mom for her 99th birthday.

I’ve been seriously Vegan hesitant in this home of fruits and veggies. It seems odd but finding Vegan dishes is hard here and I’m done with salads, bagels, fries and hoping the local Thai joint doesn’t use fish oil in their excellent veggie panang curry. Next, I plan to sample some Jamaican Vegan dishes but that will be another story.

Vegan Fine Foods Market
The market

I walked in to find a fairly large market to the right and a cafe straight ahead. Meandering through the market I kept thinking that I didn’t know there were so many Vegan products available. The back wall coolers and freezers are stocked with everything you could want and more. I also noticed that everything was the latest version. Particularly the Beyond Meat selections. My home markets still have the older recipe products while Vegan Fine Foods appear to have all the latest.

The menu choices are daunting, therefore I went with that day’s special Sausage and Peppers sandwich, sub, whatever you call it. I asked for onions but perhaps they were included just not on the board. The sandwich came packed with two Beyond Meat sausages, tons of peppers and glorious caramelized onions. The house mustard sauce wrapped it all in tangy goodness. I loved this sandwich and the presentation touches too.

Head Chef Jonny, introduced himself as did others offering assistance in my wanderings. Methinks the photo taking got their attention.

Chef Jonny is a big man. A Chef’s chef and not one I would take for a Vegan on the street. But the rock by checkout and our conversation confirm that this is a committed man. He gave me the short history and overview of the product selections. They’ve obviously made the decision to align with Beyond Meat and other suppliers so they can always have the latest before the other guys. Good business strategy. They are actively seeking investors and working towards franchising in the near future.

I’m known for tongue slippage but Jonny set me straight when I of course made a dumb gaff. I told him about my vegan daughter and grandsons. That for family detente, I was sort of forced into becoming a vegan. Jonny said, “Nobody forces you to become a Vegan. It’s your choice”. Yes it is Jonny, Yes it is!
